My sketchbook has been seeing more action lately, which is a good sign. In the meantime I also pulled out this old sketch and started working on it again... had to really fix the perspective.. still a bit off but we'll see where it goes. Hopefully I can snap a reference photo or something, otherwise I just know that I'll be six hours into Photoshop and then realize how off it all is.
I also started using Pulse on my lovely Galaxy Nexus. It's pretty sweet reading articles on that giant screen. Anyway, came upon this great post of cool illustrations on From Up North. Check it out :)

One thing that's always annoyed me, even since middle school, about getting home was the question of where to put my bag. On a flat surface my bag usually falls over because my laptop is in it, and if it's on the floor that means I have to pick it up everytime I need to get something from it. Well luckily I have quite a bit of leftover wood from those drawers.

So I started planning this jersey ages ago. Last year some players had joked about having a unicorn, but no one really jumped on board with it. I can't say I was psyched about it either, especially without any other images than My Little Pony with a unicorn horn in my head. Over winter break I was determined to make a really badass unicorn that could go on our jersey.
I started with the sketch to the left after looking over some reference photos of horses. I had this idea in my head of a drawing using mostly whispy lines to describe this horse and rider. It would be printed over this watercolor-splashed background. It was cool as a t-shirt design, but for a team logo to print you want definitive edges. Here's how it turned out:

After moving back in with my parents for the rest of the school year, I've realized more fully now that I have way too much stuff--especially once I was in the closet with all of my childhood things (not the good ones with sentimental value). So I decided to clear out the closet in an economical way. Here it is in the "before" state. There was so much space above the top shelf that just wasn't being utilized, so moving that shelf upwards was the first thing that needed to happen.
Other things I decided to change: have one set of drawers instead of the two dressers; have one section of double hang rods and one section that is single; more shelving for sweaters, shoes, and other non-hanging items. The drawers I decided to make instead of purchase. I figured I could make some simple drawers and even make them have that worn, industrial Restoration Hardware look.
Below are a few shots of it in progress and then my closet as it is now. Still needs a little work. I'm missing one more piece of plywood for the shelf above the drawers. I'm pretty pleased with how the drawers came out though. The drawer pulls are kind of my favorite.

For class recently we had a "white t-shirt project" where we were to modify one white t-shirt in order to express a concept or theme. Mine was expansion. I went through a few much less successful iterations and learned a few things, like how to starch a shirt the old fashioned way with a cornstarch solution cooked on the stove and making t-shirt yarn.
The final iteration was created by turning a white t-shirt into t-shirt yarn, then tying it together to creat this spiderweb net. I used large washers tied in intervals to weigh down the edges. It was inspired by a discussion about Queen Elissa's conquering of Byrsa using a piece of oxhide.
